Finding the Right Fuel Mix – It’s Complicated

“Finding the right fuel mix” drew a crowd at the Energy Research & Social Science (ER&SS) Conference at Arizona State University on May 30, 2019.

I chaired the session and learned how PV can be backed up by several types of conventional resources in Italy (Nicola Comincioli, University of Brescia), wind capacity factors hit record highs (68-70%) last summer in Kuwait (Waleed K. Al-Nassar, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research), low-carbon transport policies in New Zealand have not harmed the economy (Selena Sheng, University of Auckland), and the USEPA is examining behavior-technology interactions in its energy scenarios (Kristen Brown).
